About Pretty Things Online
We build the software behind ambitious products.
Pretty Things Online Inc is a website and application development agency. We design, build, and maintain websites, web applications, mobile apps, and the AI features that make them useful — for founders, operators, and teams who need something built properly.
Why we exist
Most software projects fail on the boring parts.
The idea is rarely the problem. Projects stall on the unglamorous work — auth that actually holds, payments that reconcile, a deploy pipeline nobody is afraid of, an interface that works for every user on every device.
We started Pretty Things Online because we kept meeting teams who had paid for a design, paid again for a build, and still had nothing in production. So we do the whole thing: strategy, design, engineering, launch, and the support afterwards, with one team accountable for the result.
We've built and operated our own products, which means we have lived with our own decisions. That changes how you build — you stop optimising for the demo and start optimising for the second year.
How we operate
A small set of things we actually hold ourselves to.
Ship, then improve
Working software beats a perfect plan. We get something real in front of users early and let what we learn shape the rest.
Own the hard parts
Payments, auth, infrastructure, accessibility, compliance. We take on the complexity instead of handing it back as a caveat.
No black boxes
You own the repository, the accounts, and the documentation from day one. Nothing we build should be hostage to us.
Build for the long run
We write code the next developer can read. Most of what we build we're still maintaining years later — so we build accordingly.
How we work
Four stages, and you can see into all of them.
Discovery
We start with the outcome you need, not the feature list.
One to two weeks, paid, and useful on its own. We interview the people who will use the thing, map the workflows it has to fit, and find the constraints that will actually bite — the legacy system nobody wants to touch, the compliance rule, the integration with no API. Then we scope it and price it.
What you get: A written specification, a delivery plan, and a fixed price.
Design
Interface and architecture together, while changes are still cheap.
We design the screens and the data model in parallel, because each one constrains the other and finding that out in month three is expensive. You review real, clickable screens rather than static mockups, so the feedback you give is about how it works and not just how it looks.
What you get: Clickable prototype, component designs, and the data model.
Build
Short cycles, with working software at the end of each one.
One-week cycles, each ending in something you can open and use on a staging URL. You have repository access and a standing demo from week one. Nothing is hidden until a reveal — if something is going slower than planned, you hear it that week rather than at the deadline.
What you get: Staging environment, weekly demos, and repo access throughout.
Launch & support
We handle production, then keep improving it or hand it over cleanly.
We run the deployment, watch the monitoring through the first weeks, and fix what real traffic surfaces. After that it is your call: we stay on a retainer, or we hand over documentation, credentials, and a runbook and step back. Either way the accounts were always in your name.
What you get: Live product, monitoring and backups, runbook, and documentation.
